The porcelain house

Cortese

The unique Cortese porcelain house was founded by the talented sculptor Virgilio Cortese, father of Germano Cortese, in Italy, back in 1894.

Germano Cortese

The collection you see in the catalogue is the work of Germano Cortese (1927–2012). He sculpted every model: the poses, the faces, the folds, the turn of a head.

Not one of these works exists by another sculptor’s hand — there is no one else to have them from.

The Capodimonte tradition

Capodimonte is a school, not a label. The Royal Manufactory near Naples opened in 1743, and ever since, its manner has been known by porcelain lace, by a flower gathered petal after petal, by faces painted with a brush of a few hairs.

Cortese works in that tradition.

How a piece is made

Every figurine is made to order. The time depends on the piece: complexity decides everything, so it is confirmed for the particular model.

Glaze or bisque — the choice is yours; we do both.
