The catch is lifted almost to hat height: a silver fish still swings on the line and the boy reaches up with an open hand. He is crouched on a rock, the rod braced at his shoulder and running far out on the diagonal. A red sleeveless jerkin lined in white and short blue breeches leave his legs bare. Two more fish lie on the stone beside him, one with a rust-coloured back, while the straw hat has slipped behind his shoulders on its cord.
