Animals & Birds

The animal pieces are few in number but carry the widest span of scale in the catalogue. The elephant returns in three versions of one model — tusks and broad ears — differing only in size: from twenty-four centimetres to fifty-four, from one kilogram to seven and a half.

The dogs are handled as genre scenes. A sleeping pointer has curled into a quiet pose, a leather collar with a buckle at its neck. A gun dog stands by a stump with the bird it has retrieved. There is also a collector's series of miniatures with gilded collars.

Birds have a single piece, but a large one: a raptor with wings spread and talons out, a pheasant in its grip, fourteen kilograms.

Three dolphins hold a synchronised leap above the waves.

The largest work in the series — and in the whole catalogue — is a composition of horses: manes and tails streaming among rocks and shrubs, eighty-four centimetres long and seventy-two kilograms. Two such pieces exist, and only the setting changes: rocks with shrubs, rocks with trees.
