Golden Eagle

The eagle has dropped onto a spur of white rock, wings opened almost to the full height of the piece. One talon closes over a pheasant while the raptor's head turns down toward it. The plumage is built in layers — rust-coloured scales across the breast, brown flight feathers, dark tips at the ends. Left white and sharply faceted, the rock throws the dense brown painting of the bird forward along a long diagonal.
