The Flower Girl

The flower seller walks with her head slightly lowered, one hand raised to her breast, a wicker basket of roses, cornflowers and small blooms hooked over the other arm. A gold-edged wide brim shades the face; the ochre laced bodice sits over a lilac blouse with turned cuffs. Her long brown skirt is painted with white flower sprigs and turns downward in broad spiralling folds. The hem meets a green patch of grass above the white base.
