The doctor holds a slip of paper up in his right hand and reads it with his head slightly back. Pince-nez sit on the bridge of his nose, his moustache is waxed and his wavy hair swept away from the forehead. A white coat opens over a grey double-breasted waistcoat and matching trousers. His left palm rests on a tall wooden writing desk stacked with papers and a closed book, the base left plain with one gilt line.
