The composition runs along the horizontal and reads from left to right. At the left stands the wagon with its rounded canvas top in blue and white stripes, a woman in a flowered dress seated on the step. At the centre a man in a hat and olive jacket holds a piebald horse by the bridle as it lowers its head. To the right two women settle at a campfire with a pot, brushwood laid out between them. A dog, geese, baskets and a copper basin are set across the base, and this large Capodimonte group is worked through to the spokes, the harness and the folds of the canvas.
