Imperial Guard on Horseback

The dapple-grey walks with its neck slightly lowered while the guardsman holds the rein in his right hand and rests the left on his thigh. A tall shako with a red plume and gilt plate sets the vertical of the whole figure; the coat is blue with red facings, the trousers red with gold stripes. A blue saddlecloth edged in broad gold covers the croup, a rolled case strapped behind the seat. An ivy-wrapped trunk rises between the hooves.
