The figure is caught at full effort — body pitched forward, one leg braced, both hands holding the blade against the stone. His barrow is worked out in detail: timber frame, spoked wheel, water can, shears and a hatchet laid along the board. He wears a red cap, a white shirt rolled to the elbow and a long grey apron, with a basket of tools beside him. Offcuts and small blades lie scattered across the rocky base.
