Madonna on a Cushion

The Madonna is seated on a red cushion with gold tassels, her head inclined towards the Child, who has risen on her lap and reaches a hand to her face. A plaited red band holds her hair, a gold sash crosses one shoulder, and the grey-white mantle breaks into broad folds down to the cushion. A pink cloth is pushed down beneath the Child. Colour is held to three notes only: the band, the sash and the cushion.
