Nativity Scene with Wooden Base

The grotto is built up from irregular stone blocks, with an olive tree curling around the right side, its leaves and fruit picked out. Mary kneels in a lilac veil over a rose gown with her hands joined; Joseph, in a red cloak, holds a lantern with a lit candle. The Child lies on straw in the manger and the head of an ox shows behind it. A jug, a bowl and a small fire sit at the front edge, while a gilded comet rides above the roof.
