Four riders meet a brush fence and the composition splits in two. On the left a chestnut goes down on its knees, the jockey in yellow silks pitching forward over its neck with the whip still in hand. The other three hold their stride in pink, blue and orange silks, bodies flat along the gallop. Green turf, bare patches and clods of earth run the length of the base, which reads across like a single frame of the race.
