The Rain

The girl walks into the wind behind a wide ochre parasol, its ribs curved back over her head. One hand carries the shaft at her shoulder, the other holds down the hem of a blue dress printed with small flowers. A white pinafore with a patch pocket is tied over it, and gaiters show above blue boots. Her hair has come loose beneath a pink ribbon. At ground level a shaggy dark puppy presses against her, small flowers worked into the base.
