By the Chapel

The tiled shrine rises above the scene, its niche holding a Madonna and Child against a blue ground with modelled roses climbing the frame. At the stones below, a woman in a blue pinafore and straw hat kneels with her hands loose in her lap. To the left a man in a pale suit bends forward, a folded umbrella in his hand and a blue bundle set down beside his shoes. Rose canes, rough masonry and two white doves on the ledge tie the figures to the image above.
