Christopher Columbus

Columbus stands at the ship's wheel with both hands on the spokes, body squared to the course and eyes set ahead. The wind carries his red cloak back over a grey shirt and dark jerkin, and checked breeches disappear into tall boots. Forward lie the furled sail and the bowsprit with its rigging, while sacks, a keg and stowed gear fill the stern. The base is modelled as a breaking wave with gulls scattering across it.
