Napoleon on Horseback

A dapple-grey rears with both forelegs off the ground and its tail thrown back. Napoleon, in a black bicorne with a gilt cockade, steers with one hand and flings the other forward and up. The red cloak opens behind him like a sail and carries the whole line of the composition. The oval base is modelled as rocky ground with stones and a broken root, its rim ruled in gold.
