Joseph, wrapped in a broad cloak, rests a hand at his cheek and leans over Mary; she wears red with a blue mantle, one bare foot showing below the hem. The Child pushes up toward her from a white cushion, steadying himself on her arm. Two white doves appear in the modelled cloud at the left.
