Christ rises from the rock of the tomb, the right arm thrown up and the left held out, white drapery falling across the body in one sweep. Three Roman guards are caught below: one seated with a hand raised against the light, one fallen backwards, the third recoiling behind a chased round shield with his spear still in hand. Red and blue cloaks pick out the armour and greaves. An open scroll with an eagle, dropped spears and waterskins are left across the stones.
