Putto (Cherub)

The putto sits with one leg extended, a dry stick raised in one hand and the other palm opened above the fire. A small blaze is built in front of him: crossed twigs and three orange tongues of flame. The blue drape passes under the knee and folds across the base. The body is left in pale porcelain and the hair is worked in dark curls. The white plinth is marked around with small gilt sheaves, and of the four putti this is the only one whose eyes rest on the fire rather than on what he holds.
